To bend the utilization/cost curve, leadership must move away from the hospital-centric model and embrace six significant new requirements, according to Health Affairs commentary. The six include: culture, physicians and care delivery, communication and health information technology, facilities, contracting, and "making the transformation" to value-based models. According to the commentary, "To achieve success in a value-based system, hospitals and health systems will be required to reassess existing leadership and business models, and transform the care delivery system in their communities."
