Hospitals rethink how ERs should work

For years, hospitals have tried to move people out of their emergency rooms. Now, many hospitals are beginning to embrace the notion of non-emergent patients in their ERs, according to National Public Radio. Instead, hospitals are repositioning these ERs to deal with specialized issues, such as parents of pediatric patients and to schedule appointments in other care venues. The intent is to drive up patient satisfaction scores. "I'm hoping we'll change a bit of the discussion," Robert Blendon, a professor of health policy and political analysis at Harvard's T.H.
